Soul Train in Edinburgh
The Kosher Ceilidh arrived in Edinburgh on a rather bleak Saturday night having rushed down from St Andrews straight after the end of Shabbat. SCoJeC arrived at University of Edinburgh Chaplaincy at the same time as most of the audience but everyone threw themselves into a flurry of preparation.
The audience included, as well as members of the local Orthodox and Liberal Jewish communities, unaffiliated Jews who had perhaps not found a niche in either congregation but still wanted a connection to their roots. They became increasingly appreciative during the course of the evening, and, when a small group of children began to dance very early on in the evening, and their elders soon joined in with enthusiasm!
