Every time we go to Inverness new people join us! On this occasion a bumper turnout of 25 people from Inverness and environs – mostly Jewish, but also a few local people with an interest in Judaism – joined SCoJeC to light Chanukah candles and enjoy festive food.  Click here to read a report.

We have always thought that the questions asked during our Being Jewish in Scotland project would lend themselves equally well to a discussion among people from other communities, so, when Interfaith Scotland asked whether we would put on an event during Scottish Interfaith Week to bring together members of all faiths and none, we decided to see if we were right! Inverness, Ullapool, and Stirling were the venues for SCoJeC's latest series of events, "Chai (Life) in the Highlands", which were attended by Jewish people from as far away as the USA, Canada, South Africa, and South America, who have now made their home in Scotland. Click here to read a report.

We are delighted to announce that SCoJeC has been awarded £10,000 by the Big Lottery Investing in Ideas programme for our new project, SCoJeC Connect, which will link Jewish communities and individuals throughout Scotland by means of a new web-based discussion site and 'e-learning' space. SCoJeC's study of Being Jewish in Scotland was one of the topics at a conference about Edinburgh's Jewish history that took place at the University of Edinburgh, at which Gillian Raab and Ephraim Borowski, SCoJeC Vice-Chair and Director respectively, also explored what census data tells us about the Jewish population in Scotland.
