SCoJeC’s Chanukah party at Alloa Town Hall was a great success, bringing together around 30 Jewish people from the area, many of whom had not previously known of one another, including several young families, and some students from Stirling University.
The venue could not have been better: the spacious meeting room provided ample space for buffet table, chanukiot, and a 'gaming table' for the highly competitive dreidel game that followed, with plenty of chocolate gelt for all the participants and a box of chocolates as the prize for the winner. A good time was had by all, laughing, mingling, enjoying the food, and getting to meet new local interesting people.
SCoJeC's renowned kosher buffet was supplemented by a delicious cheesecake donated by local volunteer Alyssa Savage, and wouldn't have been complete without the traditional Chanukah latkes that she and SCoJeC's Voluntary Ambassador to the Highlands and Islands spent all afternoon preparing.
"If it wasn’t for SCoJeC, I know that I would feel even more isolated than I am," said one participant. "I am truly thankful for the work that they continue to do in bringing our Jewish community scattered across the wilds of Scotland together."
The question on everyone’s lips was, “When can we have the next one?” To which we can only say – “Watch this space"!
