Ephraim Borowski, Director of the Scottish Council of Jewish Communities, became the first person from a non-Christian background to deliver the Baillie Lecture for the Centre for Theology and Public Issues at New College Edinburgh when he gave a Jewish view of the challenges facing Scottish Society with the title "Jewish and Scottish - the threads and the tartan".
Ephraim welcomed the many efforts in Scotland and elsewhere to further interfaith dialogue and understanding and challenged the audience to admit that true dialogue requires people to share and probe their disagreements, not merely their superficial agreements.
Ephraim also praised the good intentions of the Scottish Executive’s One Scotland – Many Cultures campaign as “an indication of what Scotland aspires to become”.
