My daughter Tamara was born in the early morning of Israel's Independence Day. I desperately tried to phone my family, back in Israel, to tell my news but nobody was at home - everyone was at the traditional BBQ in the park.
In Israel it is easy to plan such a gathering during the summer - for a start, you can be assured the sun will shine! But could we count on dry weather for a BBQ outside Dundee Synagogue in early June?
Despite a wet start, by late afternoon, when we all went out to admire Jo's excellent grill skills, it was sunny, fresh and beautiful. Thirty members and guests enjoyed the delicious food whilst admiring the garden which had been manicured especially for the occasion!
We were joined by four members of Tayside police who were given a tour of the synagogue, and who, in return, offered us valuable advice about security and maintaining a safe environment.
And to round off a great day, the winning entry and runners-up were announced in our competition to design a new logo for the synagogue.
Should we plan another outdoors event?
Most certainly, and next time you should come too!
Many thanks to SCoJeC for sponsoring a great day!
